STRI and Ryder Cup winner set to announce 2012 Golf Environment Awards

November 6, 2012

STRI and Ryder Cup winner Justin Rose will unveil the winners of the 2012 Golf Environment Awards later this month which will showcase best environmental practice at golf courses across the UK.

Following his Ryder Cup success when Justin Rose played a major part in Team Europe's dramatic comeback against the United States in Medinah, Rose continues as an official ambassador of the Golf Environment Awards for a third consecutive year.

Justin, who recently followed up on his triumph as part of Europe's Ryder Cup team by clinching the World Golf Final in Turkey, is proud to support the awards, which recognise both individuals and golf courses for their commitment to environmentally sustainable projects.

The prestigious awards, now in their 15 th year, are managed and administered by STRI, the world's leading sports turf consultancy. Each entry is independently judged on what the golf course has achieved and how it has benefited the environment.

Comprising of eleven prizes, the awards include an Overall Achievement accolade which was won in 2011 by Loch Lomond Golf Club who embarked on a study trip to Portugal as part of their prize.

Commenting on his role as official ambassador of the awards, Justin Rose said:  "I am delighted to support the Golf Environment Awards once again this year alongside STRI. Professional players are increasingly aware that environmentally sustainable courses are integral to the design and management of word class surfaces to play on.

"I'm looking forward to finding out more about this year's winning environmental projects and the leading course management professionals that are pioneering them."

The coveted Golf Environment Awards are supported by a number of sponsors committed to supporting and promoting proven sustainable projects within golf clubs - County Turf, Ransomes Jacobsen, Everris and Syngenta alongside BIGGA and media sponsors Golf Monthly and Greenkeeping.

Richard Stuttard, STRI's Environmental Consultant, said: "STRI recognises the ever increasing spotlight on environmental issues and is proud to once again be managing these awards.  It is imperative that environmentally sustainable courses should be at the forefront within the golf industry.

"This year's awards will once again showcase the tremendous work being undertaken at golf courses throughout the UK and we look forward to announcing the winners shortly alongside Justin Rose."
