Issues for Kent's Royalty: UPDATE Read
initial article Kent
County Council considered the planning application by SITA to develop and operate
a waste burning incinerator at Richborough on 24th July. Principle
Planning Officer, Bill Murphy took the Committee through the proposal mentioning
that SITA had presented additional information the day before the planning application
was due to be discussed. Because this information had been delivered so late it
was not taken into account. The Officers recommended refusal of the application
on a number of grounds, including the size of the building and that insufficient
information had been provided by SITA. After
a brief debate by the Councillors the proposal was rejected with one abstention.
Phil Scott the
Secretary of the Sandwich Action Group said "This is a very important victory.
So many folk claimed that KCC would pass the proposal, regardless of our lobbying
and actions. They were wrong. We have demonstrated that you can fight and win.
If your case is strong and the community is prepared to support the cause, you
would be surprised at what you can achieve". SITA
now have six months in which to appeal. The battle has been won – the war may
follow. |
